What Is A Thruster?

The propeller, also known as booster, is a pair of solid rocket boosters that provide thrust for the space shuttle within two minutes before launch and are installed on both sides of the external storage tank.

A device used to propel a boat. There are two kinds of propellers for propellers and propellers.

Propeller thrusters are referred to as propellers. The propeller is mounted on the propeller shaft below the stern waterline of the boat. The propeller shaft is driven by the main engine to rotate together. The water is sucked in from the suction surface of the blade and discharged from the discharge surface. The reacting force of the water is used to push the boat forward. The propeller is divided into a fixed pitch propeller and an adjustable pitch propeller. 1. Fixed pitch propeller. It is composed of hub and blades. The blades are usually 3~4 (see Figure 1). The blade near the hub is called the blade root, and the outer end is called the tip. The leading edge is called the leading edge on the front side while the front side is running. The rear side is called the following edge. A circular pipe is installed on the outer edge of the fixed pitch propeller, that is, the pipe propeller. The propulsion efficiency of propeller can be improved by the ducts, but the reversing performance is poor. The propeller can also be divided into fixed and rotary type. The fixed ducted propeller enlarges the rotating diameter of the ship, and the rotating ducted propeller can improve the rotating performance of the ship. Adjustable pitch propeller. The propeller blade is driven by the crank-connecting rod mechanism in the hub, and the propeller power and propelling direction can be changed by changing the blade angle without changing the speed and direction of the propeller shaft. The propeller is simple in structure, reliable in operation and high in efficiency, and is the main propeller of ships. The propellers of modern ships usually adopt such structural forms as large disk ratio, moderate sideslip, unequal pitch in radial direction and more blades to reduce cavitation, erosion, noise and excessive exciting force when working in uneven wake field at stern. Supercavitating airfoil propellers are used in some high-speed ships. The air propeller used in full cushion hovercraft is similar to the fixed pitch propeller, which uses the reaction force of air to propel the ship forward.

The water jet thruster consists of a water pump, a suction pipe and a water spray pipe (see Fig. 2). When advancing, the pump sucks water from the bottom suction pipe and sprays it out at a high speed from the spray pipe to obtain the reaction force of the water flow and push the boat forward. When reversing, the reversing bucket above the sprinkler nozzle is put into the water. After the high-speed water enters the reversing bucket, the water sprayed backward is reflected into the forward flow, and the boat is reversed without changing the rotation direction of the main engine. Water jet propeller has good shallow water propulsion efficiency and maneuverability, low noise and vibration, is a shallow water boat using more propulsion devices.
